Five PGHS Students Named Finalists In Sterling Scholar Awards

Five Pleasant Grove High School students become Sterling Scholar finalists Brett Bezzant in mathematics Douglas Hill in science Les Tippetts in art and craft Cindy Lindstrom in homemaking Jolene Harper in business education from over 430 nominees across 39 high schools. Each receives a Sterling Scholar pin and competes for cash awards scholarships totaling over 5000 dollars. Final judging April 18 at Cottonwood High will name one winner and two runners up per category. Winners get 250 dollars, runners up 100 dollars, plus tuition scholarships from Utah institutions. The 12 winners receive expense paid trips to the Gold Plate Awards in Chicago June 12 to 14, with results and coverage on KSL.

John G Schmitz to Speak in Orem Friday Evening

The Honorable John G Schmitz American Party presidential candidate will address a public meeting Friday April 13 in Orem High School at 8 p.m. The event is sponsored by local John Birch Society chapters. Admission is 2.00 at the door, 1.50 for students. Schmitz highlights national issues and Utah support.

Opening Doors to Careers at Utah Tech Open House

Utah Technical College at Provo invites the public to a two day open house April 13 and 14 with the theme Opening Doors to Careers. Exhibits, shop and classroom demonstrations, guided tours and refreshments will showcase trades and vocations. President Wilson Sorensen and coordinator Roger Honeyman emphasize detailed tours and future plans to train Utah’s workforce for well paid vocational careers.

Lindon Sets Kindergarten Orientation for April 18

Lindon announces a kindergarten orientation on Wednesday April 18 at 1 pm for all parents with incoming kindergartners. Students will meet in the kindergarten room while parents learn about the program and pick up dental and health forms in the library. Pleasant Grove Garden Club hosts a Garage and Plant Sale on May 12 at 335 East First South to fund beautification projects. donations welcome by calling 785-2305 or 785-3358. Revenue Fund Public Hearing Next Thursday

A public hearing will be held at Pleasant Grove City Hall on Thursday, April 19, 1973 at 7 30 p m to decide how Revenue Sharing Funds are spent. The law restricts use to approved government expenditures and invites all interested residents to attend and voice opinions on the proposed allocations.

Diane Bastian Named Top Secretary at PGHS

Diane Bastian daughter of Mr and Mrs Raymond K Bastian and senior at Pleasant Grove High School has been chosen by the school business department as top secretarial student for Honor Night. The event sponsored by the National Secretaries Association International will be held April 5 at a Provo cafe. Bastian is president of a new Future Business Leaders of America chapter member of Student Senate and the Creative Writing Club and an honor student.

Pleasant Grove High Junior Senior Prom Sets for Friday

Groundwork for the 1973 Junior Senior Prom is completed for tomorrow night. The event features Sunlight presented by the junior and senior classes, Bert Murdock Orchestra providing music, and a floor show at 9 30. Advance tickets cost 4.00 per couple, 5.00 at the door. Dress is formal with corsages optional. Prom assembly today at 10 30 a.m. Chairmen Jane Richins and Elaine Schnelling.

Pleasant Grove Police Reports Two-Week Accidents and Arrests

Pleasant Grove police logged seven accidents including one reportable with two injuries totaling 36050 in damage. Nine juveniles were arrested for shoplifting petty theft no license and driving on suspension. John Charles Carson 51 was jailed Mar 18 for drunk driving with 299 bail forfeited. Larceny vandalism and petty theft incidents noted. Seven April court trials pending. Officials attended statewide crime conferences and discussed the new Criminal Code effective July 1 1973.

Tops Club Elects New Officers at Pleasant Grove Meeting

TOPS Chapter 44 met Monday at City Hall Pleasant Grove electing officers for the coming year. New president Lois Mc Ewan and vice president Pauline Cowley led, with Joyce Johnson as secretary and Alice Fullmer as treasurer. Weight recorders Ireta Mitchell and Betty Mitchell assisted. Naomi Gillies honored outgoing officers and installed the new team at 1 p.m. Members are invited to attend each Monday to join and slim.

A meeting for the Tri-City Golf Association is set for Thursday April 19 at 7 p.m. in the Little Theatre of the American Folk High School. The event invites both men and women to join and support the new golf course.

PGHS FFA Attends State Convention in Salt Lake City

PGHS Future Farmers of America attended the state convention last weekend in Salt Lake City. Meetings were held in the Terrace Ballroom and provided informative sessions on improving the FFA organization for 1973–74. Jon Bratt and David Illingsworth received their state former awards. FFA Sweethearts also attended.
