Members of the Pleasant Reasons Club and city officials gathered at the Igy CG Camp to discuss a civic center with an outdoor swimming pool. Anderson of Orem outlined advantages and costs, with officials leaning favorable though noting about $8,000 total and $3,000 possible W P A contribution.
Keen interest at Central school in the Junior Clean-up contest sponsored by the Beautification Campaign. Rules require pep and determination, with final home inspections and a signed parental slip due April 15. Prizes include school trees for top classes, ball and bat for standout students, a climbing rose bush, bulbs, and other small rewards.
The executive and planning committees of the Pleasant Grove district beautification campaign met at the Timpanogos stake office Tuesday evening to hear reports from the chairmen on progress and to plan further cleanup and landscaping of the community.
The Civilian Conservation Corps marked its seventh anniversary with Open House programs across 1,500 camps. In 1939 the CCC enrolled 311,000 people including veterans and Indians, carrying out reforestation, erosion control, park and forest improvement, wildlife protection, and fire prevention with improved training and a large conservation program.
Hulda Anderson Richin 67 died at home after a three week illness of heart trouble. Born April 20 1872 in Pyronga Sweden she came to Pleasant Grove as a child and lived there her life. Survived by husband Oscar Richins three children ten grandchildren one great grandchild two brothers and one sister. Funeral Saturday at 2 p m in the Third ward chapel under Bishop Joseph S Walker. Burial in Pleasant Grove city cemetery. Also notes an assembled local political meeting with officers elected and delegates chosen to Provo county convention.
Lynn Cullimore son of Mr and Mrs William Cullimore of Lindon came home Tuesday night after a two year mission in West Virginia Tennessee and Kentucky where he served as district president He notes missionaries can reach a more educated audience and praises southern hospitality while contrasting life in Kentucky and the hill country with Utah values and literacy He also thanks Pleasant Grove Review publishers for sending the hometown paper to him.
The CCC Open House drew about 250 guests despite wind and rain. Commander Theodore Wirek organized the anniversary event with afternoon tours at 2 pm and two concerts from 3 to 4 pm by the Herrington school orchestra led by Rulon Brimhall and Pleasant Grove high school band conducted by Irwin Jensen.
Funeral rites at the Timpanogos stake tabernacle honored Susie Green Robinson 68 who died at home after five months of illness. A large crowd heard the gospel message of Resurrection and remembered her as a devoted mother of five boys. A second service for Thomas Walker Fenton, crushed beneath a tractor at Manila, drew a large attendance and featured musical numbers, tributes from community leaders, and thoughts on life after death and family unity.
American Folk and Pleasant Grove members of the American Legion Post 49 schedule a banquet and dance in the Legion Hall at American York on Thursday evening April 18. The program features “The Battle Creek Hill Billion” with entertainers Karl Banks Irwin Jensen Clarence Rolling and James Bim mons. Earl Londer chairs the arrangements with committee members Don Mack Dalton Arnold Henrichsen Reuben Tomlinson Wesley Beck Hayden Holmdrake and Sidney Beck representing the American Pork section.
Census enumerators started this week in Plemn Ant Grove and surroundings to complete the survey soon. Kenneth Sarria ve ran covers the southeast area east of the secondary highway with Freeman as the district enumerator for Lin don. Officials note preliminary lists and blanks absent older residents, urging questions to ease the process.
Merrill N Warnick was appointed one of seven members of the executive board of the Utah State Agricultural committee. The board, part of a twenty eight member state body, meets in the capitol monthly to coordinate agricultural organizations and devise a unified Utah agriculture program. Other members include J G Peterson president of Utah Agricultural College, William Peterson executive commissioner of agriculture, Ward Holbrook Farm Bureau president, Don Clyde president Sheep and Wool Growers Association, L C Montgomery president Horse and Cattle Growers association, David P Smith commissioner of agriculture, and Mrs Eile V Reeder director Home and Community section State Farm Bureau.
