Quarterly welfare conference set for Timpanogos stake with sessions in the First Ward Chapel. Saturday 6 30 pm open to stake and ward welfare workers and general church welfare reps. Sunday general session at 10 am with church authorities represented by Steven L Richards and Glifford EB Young.
Second Ward closes with a social next Tuesday evening. MIA members plan a roller skating party at Riverside Lake Provo then return to the ward chapel for refreshments, meeting at 6 30 for transportation. Manila Ward closes with a Beehive girls’ one act play directed by Mrs Boyd Wagal, followed by a dance number and refreshments. Third Ward holds a M Men And Gleaners program then an apron and overall dancing party with refreshments. Lindon Ward autumn activities end with a roller skating party at Riverside Lake on Monday night April 10.
UPRNPTLENE prescient warm sacs Banks of Monday evening of last week made her official visit at a meeting of four units of District 4 American Legion Auxiliary at the American Legion Hall in Am Fork. Sixty-five ladies attended from Oress Pleasant Grove and Am. Botk were present. President Banks outlined next year's work and district president Argilla Harvey spoke. Mrs Banks and Mrs Harvey were each presented with a cake. Luncheon followed with music by the American Fork unit. Other Pleasant Grove guests included Mrs Glendon Liston Mrs William Person Mrs Fannie Hinton Mrs Reuben Tomlinson Mrs Arnold Henrichson Mrs B A Beck and Mrs H Robertson.
The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Nelson was buried Friday afternoon in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The infant died Thursday at American Fork Hospital.
The Pleasant Grove Baseball association will hold its annual meeting at Pleasant Grove City Hall on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. New directors for the coming year will be elected and last year’s Secretary-Treasurer will report. All interested in baseball for the upcoming season are invited to attend and help select officers.
Geneva Steel Company announced March 1949 production records across departments. Open hearth ingot output reached 117 898 net tons, surpassing December 1949’s 116 804 net tons. Pig iron production hit 88 401 net tons, exceeding December 1918’s 87 163 net tons. other products also set highs.
The Salt Lake Legion Auxiliary Post No. 2 hosted national president Mrs. Hubert Gadde of Portland Oregon with an evening banquet at the American Legion hall. Department president Mrs. Karl Bahiks presided as master of ceremonies as talks on auxiliary work and national defense inspired attendees. Local figures including Karl Banka district president J. P Harvey and Millen De Radman attended along with Mrs. Milton Adamson and others.
The Daughters of Utah Pioneers held their semi annual national convention April 3 in the Lafayette Ballroom Hotel Utah with 105 delegates from all states and Hawaii. Mrs Kate B Carter was reelected president and Mrs Lucile H Walker remained chaplain. Mrs Fern E Smith led the Pleasant Grove camp as delegate. Walker served on the luncheon reception committee for past presidents. Attendees toured the new DUP building under construction set for completion by Christmas.
Rey Mills, chairman of the Red Cross drive in Pleasant Grove, extends appreciation to all who helped in the recent successful drive. He especially thanks the Relief Society for cooperating in collecting the money, and notes contributors should take pride in aiding a worthy organization and cause.
The Battle Greek Post of VFW will install officers for the coming year with public access, under a state VFW officer. Kenneth Van Wagoner, retiring commander, says a Marine Corps Recruiting service moving picture will be shown. The event is free and date to be announced soon.
vlund Plumbing and Appliance in cooperation with Utah Power and Light invite the public to a Frigidaire Cooking School next Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Power Company's Pleasant Grove office. Mary Black, Home Economist for Utah Power and Light, will conduct the session. All interested are welcome.
Principals from Utah and Inland Empire Education gather in Washington for a statewide convention held April 6 to 8. Attendees include Ray, Principal of Utah Elementary, and peers from Alpine School District such as Penton Prince of Spenvee, Melvin Beekstrand of Shavon, Mr Allert of Page, and Tyran Perty of Ayfine, meeting with Spokane participants.
Dr Max Nichols will address dairymen Friday evening at Pleasant Grove high school. The talk, sponsored by the Dairy Association with Hex Gourley as adviser, covers dairy cattle diseases and aims to engage all interested dairy farmers in questions and discussion.
Lindon residents are urged to cooperate in a general clean up and beautification effort directed by the Town Board and Beautification committee. Instructions call for trash in containers, road-side piles to be collected April 11 by the city truck, with burning discouraged on dry farms, and removal of old machinery from streets. The committee will oversee playground maintenance, street spraying with owners, shrub and flower care programs, and a demonstration of flower arrangements to present Lindon with the county’s cleanest face.
P G Tennis Team defeated Lincoln in the Alpine Tennis League opener by 5-0. Individual results include Dee Walker over Lewis Edwards 7-5, 6-1, Kenneth Ritkins defeating Don Bradshaw 6-5, Stanford Jarvis beating Earl Booth 6-2, 7-6, Merrill Ewell over Terry Judd 2-6, 6-4, 6-1, and Bryan Beazant with Bruce Clark defeating Lorin Davis and Leon Rowley 3-1, 4-6, 6-1.
Mr and Mrs M Dale Peterson along with Francis Manon and Eddie of Provy visited relatives here and in Leti dast Sunday.
Ground breaking held Wednesday for Lindon Chapel with a large turnout of ward men present. Clergymen and church leaders attended as plans were outlined by Bishop Alroy Gilman and Bishop Leaman Ee. The event featured speeches about anticipated renovations and future services, with a committee led by Grimpmain chairing arrangements and Kennehts as chair.
The Timpanogos stake presidency announces an Easter Choral rendition of The Crucifixion by John Stainer to be performed Sunday April 4 at 7 30 pm in the Pleasant Grove Second ward as the closing session of quarterly conference. A stake chorus with BYU organist J J Keeler and tenor Warren P K ten or will present the work with recitatives and choruses depicting events from Jesus arrest to the crucifixion and the final appeals. Public invited.
Dorothy Anne Nelson and Hyrum Bradley were married Thursday April 21 in the Salt Lake LDS temple with Bishop Robert L. Burton officiating. The couple, joined by both families, dined at Utah Cafe after a short honeymoon trip. The bride attended BYU and USAC. the groom, a Pleasant Grove Tech graduate and Navy veteran, studied at Utah and BYU. They plan to reside on Second East while he continues studies and she works at a new Ben Franklin store.
Funeral services for J William Watkins husband of Laila Watkins formerly of Pleasant Grove were held Thursday in Alpine. Born September 22 1949 in Alpine he was the son of Carlos Cavarard and Nannie Hall Watkins and a WW II era graduate of American Park High School. He died April at a hospital in Portela California survivors include his wife children and many relatives in Alpine and nearby communities.
