Toll of Labor Day traffic deaths tops six hundred
A final count shows 602 people died in Labor Day weekend traffic, with 60 drownings, 11 plane crash deaths, and 56 in miscellaneous accidents for an overall toll of 729. California led with 48 highway fatalities, followed by New York 42, Texas 36, Michigan 26 and Illinois 25.
