A sequence shows Alabama Governor George C. Wallace amid a crowd as a man wearing dark glasses fires a weapon. The gunman, arrested at the scene, fired until subdued by an unidentified man. Wallace collapses to the pavement with his wife nearby as police grapple the suspect.
UPI reports NY police and international authorities disrupted an heroin racket linked to Belgium and France. Five New York suspects face conspiracy charges over 264 pounds of heroin planned for smuggling, with two Paris arrests and a Brussels seizure valued at about 50 million dollars.
A late model Camaro owned by Roger Clary was stolen over the weekend and spotted at high speed on Yacht Club Drive Tuesday night. Officers Gordon DeCaprio and Coffey chased the suspect through Fort Walton Beach area streets. the driver, a 15 year old, fled on foot but was later captured near Newcastle Drive after colliding with Officer DeCaprio.
American warplanes struck Bach Mai and two other air bases in North Vietnam, destroyed pumping stations along a major oil pipeline to DMZ forces, and pounded fuel depots while opposing Mol Hanoi defenses. Haiphong harbor mines were planted anew as U S forces pressed to blunt a Hue attack amid intensifying frontline clashes.
U S and allied sources said a group of missile cruisers and destroyers was moving toward the South China Sea within about 300 miles of the North Vietnamese coast. Pentagon declined comment as officials consider possible Soviet movements in response to mining incidents. Defense Secretary Laird tied mining to possible shifts in Hanoi over the Vietnam war.
Steven J. Ross of Warner Communications and Burl J. Harris of Cypress announce a verbal merger in principle exchanging each Cypress share for a half share of Warner stock. Warner would issue about 1.375 million shares valuing roughly 48.5 million dollars for about 360 000 TVC subscribers.
The QOkatoosa Guidance Clinic Inc directors approved ten retroactive raises totaling 2990 dollars for staff starting Jan 1 1972. The May session noted a caseload of 34 as of April end with adults 65 percent and children 35 percent.
