Leaseholders Blast Island Authority Over Covenants

Okaloosa Island leaseholders and the Leaseholders Association slammed the Island Authority at Thursday’s meeting with complaints about meeting speaking times and covenant variances. The board ordered Fred Tolbert to remove most concession trailers except a temporary shack and a former mobile unit, delaying impact on Tower Beach rights until Labor Day. Ruckel noted Tolbert’s new Ramada Inn is under construction this summer and argued the changes minorly affect covenants, while Art Rogan warned the action sets a dangerous precedent for variances. The association filed opposition to Tolbert’s trailers, and Jerry Melvin’s review as executive manager was raised.
