The Blessing of the Fleet will be held on Ascension Day May 4 at St Andrew s By-The-Sea in Destin. A 4 pm service will be led by Rev. Matthews Weller with other clergy, followed by a dockside blessing for 50 to 60 boats. A public fish fry at the beach will follow, donations welcome. Captain Cecil Woodward serves as commodore. In Niceville at 3 40 p m Monday three men were hurt in a collision at the Crestview turnoff on John C Sims Parkway and SR 85. Calvin Kegerton a former Valparaiso police man Maurice Woodard and an unidentified airman passenger suffered injuries. Woodard crossed into the turn lane causing his eastbound car to strike Eggerton’s westbound vehicle. Both vehicles were heavily damaged and the passenger’s name remained unavailable at press time.
Okaloosa County Sheriff Ray Wilson says weekend jail activity included 19 cases with some bonds posted and others confined. Arrests by deputies included speeding, public drunkenness, resisting arrest, assault and battery, rape, worthless checks, peace goods, and destroying county property. Deputies Howard Williams and Joe Johnston aided in two accidents and a rescue, while George D. Madron of Pensacola was returned to custody after a sorcery conviction. sentencing had not occurred as scheduled.
Admiral David Aldenaid said the U S Navy is capable of mining Haiphong in a short time and stands ready to do so on command. He spoke on arriving in Canberra after a political prompt from ViON and noted international observers question the operation.

A May Day blizzard, linked to a storm pattern that unleashed killer tornadoes in Minnesota, buried towns under drifts up to 10 feet.
