Gov Claude Kirk opened the $7 million Interstate 10 Bridge across Escambia Bay linking Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties. Destin Chamber backs four lane East Pass bridge urgency

The Destin Chamber of Commerce board passed a resolution urging immediate construction of a new four lane bridge over East Pass. Copies were sent to local chambers and groups in Okaloosa County and along the Miracle Strip for priority support, per Chamber President Benard Kelly.

Contractor Seeks Return Of Dragline Parts

Destin based Wilkinson and Jenkins Construction Co. appeals for the return of dragline equipment parts missing from the maintenance site near the east end of Destin Bridge. The missing items delay the Destin East Pass Channel project and may require factory orders if not recovered. The firm says no punishment is intended and asks the parts be found and marked for return.

The season opener pompano catches report three fish. Dudley Laguire of Owesso Michigan landed a 2 pound 10 ounce fish at Wayside Pier at 10 am Monday using a yellow dude lure. James Mills of Fort Walton Beach weighed 2 pounds 8 ounces at Crystal Beach Pier at 12 45 pm. Wally Clark of Des tin caught over 3 pounds in Frangista Beach surf with the same lure. One cabra sighted, none landed as of press time.
