Last Gasp of Winter Snowstorm Hits Midwest and East
A final winter storm swept the Midwest and East dumping heavy snow along Great Lakes shores, with fierce winds in Appalachia. An 18 month old was killed in Whitesville West Virginia as a mobile home collapsed, a Beckley store employee was blown through glass, and a 69 mph gust ripped a roof from ETSU Minidome in Johnson City. The storm eased toward New York City.

Chamber Refuses to Take Stand on Askew Tax Plan
Florida Chamber of Commerce says it will not endorse Gov. Reubin Askew’s plan to raise the sales tax by one cent or hike liquor and cigarette taxes. It endorses cutting the manufacturing sales tax from four to two cents and exempting fuels used in manufacturing and pollution control equipment. It also backs exempting international financial transactions from the documentary stamp tax.
