Rowell Beats Kelly In Race For House
In Tallahassee Florida UPI reports Rowell, a 53 year old farmer and former House leader, defeated Scott Kelly 11 636 to 10 260 with 101 of 103 precincts counted, securing a Polk Sumter district seat after switching allegiance from the last governor race. Former Senate candidate E C Pearce trailed in another Florida contest as former Sen Red Cross made a comeback bid in Gainesville. Henry C Coleman beat J Kermit Coble in the 4th district, ensuring Volusia a senator. Rowell faced no Republican opponent and will join one of five Polk Sumter seats in the reapportionment. The results end Kelly's political career after large previous vote totals in 1966 and 1964.

Fort Walton Beach City Council approved 1500 to American Arts Festival at Okaloosa Walton Junior College for April and authorized a new fire department position fire inspector with a 118 weekly step pay. They held in abeyance a 43000 loan to the Humane Society and voted 400 to Oster Co for last month’s occupancy. Council also backed 450 for three trophies for the Antique Auto Show and allowed road block collections April 15 and 19.

An $11 million AFWET Instrumentation System will enter operation at APGC Eglin AFB. It is the military’s only electronic facility simulating actual battle conditions with 26 test targets, including 15 aircraft, five radar sites, five anti aircraft guns, and an optical tracker. Aircraft like four F Tils and two F-106s will carry instrumentation pods for radar reference. The system records hits and misses in real time and removes struck targets. AFWET aims to measure weapon effectiveness, survivability, and limits.
