At Wounded Knee South Dakota twenty militants left the besieged village as government and AIM leaders clash over terms to end the eight day occupation. Officials warned a crackdown could follow after a final pass window expires.

Eighteen more airlines canceled flights across French air space on Wednesday amid the Monday collision of two Spanish jets. Civil controllers on strike prompted military oversight. Paris airports were near standstill with only a few carriers operating. British unions joined a boycott, and Air Canada reported disorganized beaconing across France.
Sheriff Ray Wilson announces an in depth county law enforcement study. The project aims to plan for rapid growth in condos hotels and motels and tourism in Okaloosa County. He notes the long range study is expensive but will not cost taxpayers more than fifteen cents.
A continuing study to boost capacity and safety of streets and highways in the Fort Walton Beach urban area has begun. The DOT contracts with H W Lochner and Associates, led by Howard Holmes in Fort Walton Beach, with local and DOT officials guiding the effort. The project aims to deliver first recommendations within months and continue over years through the Traffic Operations Program.
The Senate Banking Committee, with bipartisan support, told President Nixon he cannot use wage price controls to impound congressionally appropriated funds while considering a one year extension of wartime powers to set these controls to April 30 1974. It also aimed for a 4 percent unemployment goal by April 1974 and debated pre notification and rent control amendments.
