Fort Walton Beach Hospital Auxiliary will hold awards and business meeting at 9 30 today at the Women s Club on Beal Street. Members urged to attend.
The Northwest Florida Chapter will hold its annual meeting Thursday at the Hurlburt Officer's Club main ballroom at 7 p.m. New chapter officers for 1971-72 will be installed and a program will be presented. Reserve with John Steiner at 243-2513 or Paul Robertson at 882-2610.

The Ranger NCO Wives Social Club will hold its monthly luncheon at the Holiday Inn today at 12 30 a m All wives of active duty or retired personnel are invited. Introduction to the Red Cross and Principles of Volunteer Service courses will be conducted Wednesday March 10 at the Hurlburt Field Chapel Annex. The Aquamarine Water Ski Club schedules meetings in Fort Walton Beach. The advisory board meets at 6 30 p m and the general membership at 7 p m in the yacht club youth room. All water skiing enthusiasts are invited.
Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce hosts Koffee Klatch this morning from 9 30 to 11 00 with Holton Hudson as host and speaker.
Florida's two senators joined 46 others in declining to invoke cloture for a third time on halving the Senate debate cutoff to 60 percent. The final tally was 48 to 36, eight votes short of the two thirds needed. Senator Church and allies, led by Mansfield, vowed to press debate, while Javits floated appealing to Agnew to reopen rules in a new Congress.
Okaloosa County Commission discussed tying in a planned 87 000 square foot Fields Department Store and 27 000 square foot Pantry Pride Grocery Store to the county sewer. The project would bring about 25 000 in annual taxes and 350 jobs, with a proposed trunk line and county permit for the tie in. County officials noted the present plant can handle county needs, but the proposal was tabled at an out of courthouse meeting pending advertisement and further review.
Fort Walton Beach police arrested two youths and a juvenile linked to multiple break ins including a home at 598 L Ombre Road and the office of Courtney and McQwagee Inc. The Moore home was entered via a forced sliding glass door, with $189 stolen from the office of Floyd Courtney. Bond set at $500 each for Roy E. Hines Jr. and Richard R. Hewit.
Fort Walton Beach officials discuss moving county commission meetings to the Fort Walton Beach Civic Auditorium. Chairman Dan Merrill Buck Greene and Dee Parkton back the change with City Manager Winston Walker to reserve the larger venue for first Monday meetings. Chamber seeks state action to allow away‑from‑seat meetings without advertised agendas.

Crestview High School mathematics instructor Ann Hulsey learned seven students performed highly at a math competition at Lurleen Wallace State Junior College in Andalusia Alabama. The Crestview group placed third as a team and all seven ranked among the top thirteen scorers out of participants from twenty six schools. The top scorers were Paul Lynn Pattie Barrow Phillip Payton Steve Ashley Shelia Cocker Julio Harrison and Jerry Kelly.
Vietnamese and North Vietnamese gunners fought in the southern Laos mountains as 16 000 South Vietnamese troops tried to disrupt the Ho Chi Minh trail. Ground clashes continued in South Vietnam while Cambodian fighting intensified. U S assessment said both sides pre-empted planned offensives with Hanoi redeploying troops to defense. Delta 1 base near Laos faced artillery and helicopter attacks as tanks and armor moved north of Highway 9.
County commissioners Tuesday approved a bulkhead line for Merino Point subdivision in Destin after a public hearing attracted no opposition. With the board’s approval, the matter goes to the Trustees of the Internal Improvement Fund in Tallahassee. They heard a Varnya Heights petition for paying work but took no action.
Washington AP reports the Supreme Court unanimously barred imprisoning those unable to pay fines, a Texas traffic case showing the poor face unequal punishment. The court also ordered divorce courts open to those unable to cover court costs, citing due process. Justice Brennan warned fines-only penalties punish the poor.
The MACE drone missiles will launch from Santa Rosa Island today between 1 30 and 2 30 pm and Friday between 2 30 and 3 30 pm. The flight will pass south of the Holiday Inn on Okaloosa Island and be destroyed about five miles offshore. Destruction point is 40 18 N and 86 37 W. All marine interests are warned to keep clear within 10 miles of the coordinates and 14 miles surrounding the area. This firing is part of routine MACE drone tests by the Tactical Air Warfare Center at Leita AFB.
Brig. Gen. Richard C. Catledge assumed command of the USAF Tactical Air Warfare Center TAWC on Tuesday, succeeding Col. Everett N. Farrell who becomes vice commander of AWC. TAWC conducts testing and evaluation of armament night operations electronic warfare and command and control. Catledge, named by President Nixon for promotion to major general, has WWII pilot roots and led the 3rd Tactical Fighter Wing in South Vietnam.
