Supreme Court rejects California liquor law challenge

The Supreme Court refused to hear Western Inc. challenge claiming California bans on B-girls soliciting drinks discriminate against women. The San Francisco topless bar’s on sale license was revoked over alleged B-girl activity at the Mocambo on November 11, 1871.

Burglary Cases Under Review

Deputy John Seay of the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Department is investigating two burglary and grand larceny cases from the weekend. A vacuum motor valued at 450 dollars was stolen from a tractor owned by D. King at 616 Massachusetts Ave Wright. An auto tape deck and a toolbox valued at 140 dollars were taken from a car owned by Charles H. Spears at 914 Vita Lane Wright parked outside his home.

Calm Descends on Ulster As Truce Goes Into Effect

Belfast greeted the IRA Provisionals cease fire with mixed scenes of celebration and violence. A soldier and a civilian were killed as gun battles and bombs marked the final hours before the truce began at midnight. Police and Army reported numerous injuries and widespread damage across East Belfast and North Street.

Truce Hopes Mixed Amid Northern Ireland Violence

The Provisionals call a truce and both communities express hope it will end the violence that has wracked the province since August 1969. In Londonderry a sniper killed a soldier at a traffic checkpoint, and in Newry a gunman killed a policeman while planting a bomb.

Vice President Spiro Agnew accused George McGovern of backing Henry Wallace style socialism urging public ownership of railroads power and key industries while criticizing income redistribution and a proposed end to Truman Doctrine aid to Greece and Turkey in a Missouri dinner address. He cited Wallace's 1948 platform and McGovern's role as a Wallace delegate.

Hijacker Ransom Located In Indiana Field

A farmer found a half million dollar ransom in a mail pouch on his soybean field near Peru Indiana. FBI and police hunted a missing hijacker after the Boeing 727 was hijacked near St Tauus and both pilots believed the jumper did not survive.

Valerie Turner Skeleton Found After Seven Months

In Starke Bradford County, the skeletal remains of 16 year old Valerie Turner were found two miles east of town by two boys. Authorities say she was shot twice in the head and identify a ring as likely engagement jewelry. A suspect or suspects remain, with evidence insufficient for arrest.
