Wallace Undergoes Operation to Remove Bullet
Governor George C. Wallace will undergo a roughly one hour operation Sunday in Silver Spring to remove a bullet lodged in his spine since May 15. Doctors expect no immediate improvement in paralysis, with plans to discuss prognosis after surgery. If recovery goes well, he may attend the July Democratic National Convention in Miami Beach.

Boat Fire Reported In Santa Rosa Sound
A small boat drifted away from a gas dock in Santa Rosa Sound Friday evening after refueling. Loy Anderson and a passenger jumped to the dock, Anderson with minor burns. Fire crews, led by Capt. Richard Oblak, extinguished the blaze after securing a water line from a nearby small boat. Damage was about 150 dollars.

Skokie patient’s artificial heart era ends with fatal transplant
A Skokie man received an artificial heart on April 4, 1969 and logged 1165 hours before a second transplant replaced it with a human heart. He died April 8, 36 hours after the second transplant. The operation drew scrutiny from Baylor College of Medicine and the House Government Operations subcommittee. Cooley resigned Baylor faculty but continues heart research at Texas Heart Institute.

Rear End Collision Injures Three on Santa Rosa Island
Florida Highway Patrol reported a late Thursday night rear end collision on Santa Rosa Island causing minor injuries to three and $3,700 in property damage. Driver Warner White Elrod, 46, of Santa Rosa Beach, allegedly drove while intoxicated after striking Jeffry Lee Hyder, 19, of Fort Walton Beach, on U S Route 98 1.3 miles east of Fort Walton Beach. Hyder's 1970 Opel and Elrod's Gremlin sustained damages of $1,800 and $1,900 respectively.
