Florida May tax receipts show gains in most categories
Florida Comptroller Fred C. Dickinson Jr reports May sales and use tax and gasoline tax receipts up slightly from May last year. The sporting goods tax falls 8.7 percent from 1966, while year to date totals exceed the previous 12 month period. Gasoline taxes reach 14,478,094 for May, up 1.4 percent, with fiscal year totals over 154.5 million, a 5.6 percent rise. Sporting goods May revenue drops 13,000 from last year, but total sporting goods for the year surpass 1.5 million, up 20.2 percent.

Coed Drowns in Gulf Surf Enroute to Panama City Camp
Velma Grissom a 17 year old Bible college student drowned three miles east of Destin while swimming with sisters Lietha 20 and Viola 19 en route to a Panama City camp meeting. Velma could not swim and was swept out by waves. Lietha was revived. Velma died at Fort Walton Beach Hospital. County ambulance service urged posting its number 243-8424 along beaches.

Drowning at Lake Silver Claims Crestview Youth
A 20 year old Crestview man, Robert Silvester Peacock, drowned Tuesday afternoon while swimming after a lost inner tube at Lake Silver. His body was recovered 150 yards off shore in 20 feet of water by Dr. Robert Fountain, a volunteer diver. Funeral arrangements are handled by McLaughlin Funeral Home.
