Hybrid Engine Target Missile Flies At Eglin Tests
The Sandpiper target missile powered by a hybrid rocket engine was air launched from an F-4C Phantom II at 49,000 feet and reached near Mach 2 in level flight for almost five minutes. The weapon, developed by the Armament Laboratory at Eglin with Edwards and Wright Patterson laboratories, features a dial-a-thrust system, solid plastic fuel and liquid oxidizer, and is designed to reach Mach 4 at 90,000 feet.

Stanford surgeons led by Dr. Norman Shumway transplanted donor heart into 54 year old Kasperak, a Laughlin Steel worker. Donor was 43 year old Virginia White who died of a stroke two hours earlier.
