Black students return to classes in Pensacola under a settlement ending racial irritants at pep rallies and events. The school board urged moderation, addressing Dixie, rebel flags, abusive language, and other issues. 14 arrests occurred before Christmas break at Escambia High School.
Washington (UPI) Congress declared Nixon re elected after a sparse electoral college session. Only about a dozen lawmakers attended as Nixon and Spiro Agnew defeated McGovern and Shriver. Faithless electors and calls to abolish the Electoral College highlighted debates on future presidential selection. The tally showed Republicans 520 Democrats 17 and Libertarians one vote.

Miami district director Robert Li Woytych says about 42 000 aliens will report addresses in Florida in January under the Federal Address Report Program. He notes 330 219 aliens reported addresses in January 1972 and stresses non citizens except certain diplomats and foreign representatives must file. Attorney General Kleindienst reported 1972 efforts shattered organized crime and narcotics networks. The department indicted over 2,000 people, with about half as crime leaders, and secured 800 wiretap orders. In 1972 alone 638 indictments covered 2,668 defendants, 943 convictions, all-time highs backdrop.

The first car drew fierce bidding before Clark clinched it and Barrett sounded the siren with every rise in price. The eight passenger armored convertible could reach 150 mph and featured a 230 horsepower Straight Eight.
