Gypsum Board Firms Indicted in Price Fixing Case
Pittsburgh UPI six leading gypsum board producers and ten executives were indicted on charges of price fixing across 1940 to 1973 involving U S Gypsum Co National Gypsum Co Georgia Pacific Kaiser Gypsum Celotex Flintkote Johns Manville and Pibhreboard Co named as co conspirators. The firms controlled over 50 percent of U S sales and allegedly maintained price protection lists and exchanged data to keep published gypsum board prices stable. Violations carry up to one year in prison and fines up to 50000 per person or company. A separate contempt filing targets four companies and four executives for defying a 1951 court ruling.
