The Commerce Department reports a 3.1 percent rise in Gross National Product for the summer, driven by $2 billion more consumer spending. Inflation as measured by the GNP price index stands at 4.8 percent, below a prior 3 percent estimate.

The United Nations General Assembly delayed finalizing its 32nd Session as the budget committee wrestled with the 1978-79 budget proposal, aiming at about 98 million dollars with a 30 percent rise. President Lazar Mojsov adjourned for the day while delegates debated a restructuring of economic and social work and renewed talks on a North-South dialogue for a new world economic order.
