Incumbent Mayor John Bruce Arnold announces re election bid and leads with one candidate for mayor. Amos Fowler enters race for city commissioner posts along with David Kenlaw and Clifford Watchous in the Valparaiso municipal election slated for January 9 with filing open until December 30.
Representatives from Pensacola to Panama City arrive for the Miracle Strip Council Fall Workshop and Dinner at Okaloosa Island. Edwin Bishop of Northeast Airlines will speak. Registration at 12 30, session at 1 00, social and dinner follow with a 5 00 fee. Major business ends with 1968 officer elections led by Holton Hudson.
Two National Guardsmen James C. Rushing and Freddie Eldridge broke a steel window to rescue 19 year old Eddy Worrall trapped in a burning home at 146 Monihan Drive around 1 30 Tuesday morning. The fire gutted Lt Col Robert L Worrall and nearby damage forced evacuation to Eglin Air Force Hospital.
National Guard units were thanked for helping with the tornado cleanup in Fort Walton Beach as about half of the troops began returning home Tuesday evening. Driscoll O g elsby and Lt Col Oscar Wilkerson said evaluations could release more troops later.
Disaster loan aid was declared for Okaloosa Bay Calhoun and Walton counties after Sunday's tornado. Loans up to 3 percent for repairs or replacement can run up to 30 years with monthly payments. Eligible losses exclude insurance funds. applications available at City Hall disaster office and SBA Jacksonville regional office.

Chief Deputy Sheriff Donald Simpson oversees the operation with no charges to the county for the aid rendered.
