President Nixon called the Senate vote to halt SST development a devastating mistake that would cost millions and threaten 150,000 aero space jobs. He urged Congress to reverse the action and highlighted environmental safeguards and U S leadership on future research.
Local rule requires organizations to deliver OKaloosa Digest notices in snail mail form to the Flagground Daily News office for publication. Staff will not accept items by telephone and representatives must appear in person to submit notices.

Don Hastings who plays Bob Hughes on As The World Turns is married to Nan Kennedy. They have three children Dennifer aged 11 Jule Ann aged 8 and Mathew aged 3 and live in Massapequa New York.
James R. Cross, held for two months by Canadian terrorist kidnappers, arrived in rain in London aboard a Canadian air force jet from Montreal. He hugged his wife Barbara, who had come from Switzerland, as friends noted his pale skin and humor about not seeing sun.
Okaloosa County Commission cancels a special meeting to hear an FAA representative on two airport projects. The panel will reconvene Tuesday December 15 for its final year meeting, then hold a January 6 swearing in for new commissioners Dee Parkton and Bob Echols at 1 30 PM in Tallahassee after Gov elect Askew's inauguration.
Senate Majority Leader Mike Mansfield urged President Nixon to join Democrats in fighting inflation and unemployment. William Proxmire backed Nixon steps to curb oil prices and wage inflation, while Mansfield called for a wage price freeze and broader policy, warning against piecemeal action.
Deputy Constable Fred Gibson, shot at an Eglin Parkway service station, faces mounting hospital bills with limited insurance. The Fort Walton Beach Fraternal Order of Police launches a Gibson Fund drive with local and state support anticipated. Donations may be mailed or dropped at Hendricks' office or WFTW Radio. Gibson’s wife left her job to care for him. he is expected to remain hospitalized for weeks, possibly until February.
Howard L. Dimmig of Shalimar was elected to the Standing Committee of the newly formed Episcopal Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast at Pensacola. The convention chose 15 clergy and lay delegates amid a three day gathering that named the Mobile based diocese. Bishop George M. Murray urged combatting pollution at a diocesan banquet.
After mass suspensions at Crestview High School for circulating a petition calling for reform, about 30 parents met with Principal James L. Riley to seek reasons for the suspensions. The students held a second meeting at Twin Hills Park with roughly 200 participants and 60 adults attending.
Eight of eleven original petition founders led a meeting protesting suspensions. They said the petition aimed to force the student council president to listen and reflect the majority while demanding the right to petition and to voice views on school policy. Cathy Cadenhead and others urged parental support and a petition drive to present at the next school board meeting.

A Choctawhatchee High pep rally was marred by a disturbance believed linked to OWJC students. About 15 militants harassed seated Black students during the alma mater as coaches and players protected peers. Police were called for nonstudents. injuries were minor but one boy suffered a broken arm in a bathroom attack.
