Valparaiso Voters Urged to Register Before Saturday
Five days remain for Valparaiso residents to register to vote in the January 9 1968 city election for mayor and three commissioners. Books close at noon Saturday December 9 and reopen two weeks after the vote. To qualify voters must be 21 US citizens and Florida residents for one year with six months in Valparaiso prior to election. Crestview police investigate a Sunday stabbing of Horace Leslie at 658 W Edney Ave and vandalism to two cars. Leslie was taken to Okaloosa Memorial Hospital in fair condition with knife wounds. Mrs Leslie confined briefly on drunkenness charge. No assault charge filed yet. Damaged cars in Shalimar area also reported with slashed tires and shattered rear windows. Missing Heifer Flees Into Fort Walton Beach Swamp
A 400 pound black heifer owned by E L Thomason escaped from a pen behind his drilling company in Wright, Fort Walton Beach, and led police and humane society officers on a three hour hunt through the Belaire Shopping Center area swampy underbrush before being recaptured. The animal arrived from Walton County and vanished after a neighbor reported the pen empty. Authorities, including Driscoll Oglesby, chief sheriff investigator, and J D Jackson and Rusty Smith of the humane society, tracked the runaway with Oglesby on horseback.

A tall thin man wearing a red white and blue ski stocking over his face robbed the Luthersville Banking Co just before 3 pm taking about $10 000. Sheriff roadblocks and a Fayetteville gunfire exchange followed as the suspect fled north in a light green station wagon toward Georgia 54. Bank cashier Elizabeth Reid described the holdup and the suspect carried a chromium plated revolver.
