Engineers compiling list of industries without discharge permits

Army Engineers in the Mobile District, with EPA, are assembling a list of industries that did not apply for wastewater discharge permits. 665 applications were received. 90 were returned for errors. 170 followup letters were sent to those overdue.

Urban Renewal Project Heads To Meet Civic League

Milo Smith of Miller Smith Associates plans a first year work program for a $500,000 federally financed Neighborhood Development Program to remove or rehabilitate substandard homes in Butler Terrace. The project maps show demolition along Germany Avenue from Third Street toward Hollywood Boulevard, pending council approval and a director appointment.

Crestview Residents Challenge Property Tax Assessments

Two Crestview residents appeared before the Okaloosa County Board of Adjustment on Wednesday seeking reconsideration of their tax bills. Christopher Rase claimed his land and buildings in the Crestview Subdivision were overvalued, while Keen Frackender said his building was overvalued though he agreed with land assessment. Ben EN described 100 acres near Wright area as unsaleable due to a county drainage ditch contaminating much of the property. Chairman Dan Merrill said values would be reviewed and called for a September reconvening to explore drainage agreements by the county.

The Ragweed Day drive announces prizes led by ten shares in a Canadian holding opposed by an anonymous buyer. Niceville Council Approves New Year Budget and Raises

Niceville City Council approved the operating budget for the new year with total receipts of 468 777 and a 20 000 carryover. Disbursements include 250 000 for water and sewer operations and 175 200 for city administration. The council also raised the city manager’s weekly pay to 20 and approved zoning actions for development projects.
