Florida faces a 1980 deadline to curb salt intrusion into the Biscayne and inland aquifers. Experts warn rising use could force importation by pipe as Jacksonville and other cities exceed aquifer replenishment. If plans fail, statewide water management measures may be needed to limit pumping.
Army Engineers in the Mobile District, with EPA, are assembling a list of industries that did not apply for wastewater discharge permits. 665 applications were received. 90 were returned for errors. 170 followup letters were sent to those overdue.
Milo Smith of Miller Smith Associates plans a first year work program for a $500,000 federally financed Neighborhood Development Program to remove or rehabilitate substandard homes in Butler Terrace. The project maps show demolition along Germany Avenue from Third Street toward Hollywood Boulevard, pending council approval and a director appointment.
Two Crestview residents appeared before the Okaloosa County Board of Adjustment on Wednesday seeking reconsideration of their tax bills. Christopher Rase claimed his land and buildings in the Crestview Subdivision were overvalued, while Keen Frackender said his building was overvalued though he agreed with land assessment. Ben EN described 100 acres near Wright area as unsaleable due to a county drainage ditch contaminating much of the property. Chairman Dan Merrill said values would be reviewed and called for a September reconvening to explore drainage agreements by the county.
The Ragweed Day drive announces prizes led by ten shares in a Canadian holding opposed by an anonymous buyer. Other awards include $25 from School Ads Inc and AG Pedwards and Sons, 10 free passes to the Palm Theatre, and day passes to Gulfarium and Okaloosa Island Amusement Park. Contest runs to Aug 19 with daily ragweed bag submissions at the Playground Daily News lot.
Niceville City Council approved the operating budget for the new year with total receipts of 468 777 and a 20 000 carryover. Disbursements include 250 000 for water and sewer operations and 175 200 for city administration. The council also raised the city manager’s weekly pay to 20 and approved zoning actions for development projects.
A campus poll released Wednesday shows 100 percent of IS pay-olits plan to vote in 1972 and 5 percent want President Nixon defeated. The survey was conducted for Photbos napavine by Reehard Fallot Associates.
A proposed budget outlines funding for planning, zoning, and public works in Paruatsc and Valparask, including printing and publications, travel, and coordination with the Planning and Zoning Commission. The county board and zoning group set meetings and seek adoption of a development committee to oversee the plan.

Okaloosa County deputies arrest Peter C. Bolduc on grand larceny and possession of stolen property for a theft from a Rocky Bayou bridge construction site. Bolduc held on $10,000 bond. Two other men were previously arrested in the thefts estimated in the thousands of dollars.
Organizations requesting space in the Okaloosa Digest must send written notices to the Playground Daily News office. Representatives of the groups must deliver the material in person. staff cannot accept notices over the phone.
The Fort Walton Beach Civic League meets tonight at the Chester Pruitt Community Center to discuss condemning 47 units on Germany Drive. A Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce luncheon, Jaycee Auxiliary meeting, Shriner Tailgaters unit dinner, Okaloosa Island Authority board, Game Fish Protective Association, and Eglin Toastmasters gather with speakers and meals announced.
The August meeting of the Seminole Community Center will be held at 8 p.m. today in the local community building. All members are urged to attend.
Allan Milledge, former Florida state chairman for Eugene McCarthy, says he is 99 percent sure McCarthy will enter Florida's March primary. Milledge notes changes in delegate selection favoring McCarthy, who previously carried strong Miami support, and he expects McCarthy to perform better overall as he garners good receptions across the country.
