Al Turner of the Playground Daily News reports on the Skylab Fishing Tour finish in Destin and surrounding Gulf ports. About 130 boats and 0 anglers participated from Panama City Pensacola and Destin with Destin contributing the most boats at 80. No official totals or winners set yet though unofficial counts hinted at two marlin on Saturday and two or more on Sunday. Sunday saw mixed results as many fish were raised but failed to bite, resulting in limited hookups and several fish lost after jumps. Trolling began at around 6 am in deep water as boats searched 100 to 120 fathoms, with Sailfisher 1 and other charters reporting only a few successful strikes. Captain Kenneth Barnett noted unpredictable billfish behavior, influenced by motor sound bait taste and water temperature, with surface temps around 86 degrees dropping deeper.
