Houston dealers meeting of the Greater Houston Service Station Association votes to close all stations for Monday Tuesday and Wednesday to protest Phase 4 gasoline price ceilings. Bill Newman says no price increase will cancel the plan and as many as 75 percent of stations may join the protest.
The Texas Highway Department schedules a public hearing on October 31 at 10 a.m. at the Cameo Theatre in Dallas to discuss Loop 9 North Section from Denton Road to near SH 78. The plan envisions an eight lane freeway over 25.8 miles, with a minimum 330 ft right of way, displacing nine families and one business.
Plano police investigate arson in the Dallas North Addition affecting homes in the 2000 block of Midcrest and Westridge Drives over a two week span. Investigators seek leads as neighbors report suspicious activity and fire damage.
Voters in the Allen Independent School District are urged to turnout Saturday for a $3 million bond election to fund new facilities and land purchases. Enrollment rose to 900 this year, and officials warn of crowded classrooms if the measure fails. Polls open 7 am to 7 pm at the Allen Municipal Building.

Joseph Bradley Pope, 31, a Dallas millionaire, was charged Thursday with the execution style murder of narcotics pusher George Edward Picazo, 35. Pope was arrested at his home where he lived on a $1 million family trust. Picazo was shot three times from a moving car, the assailant leaped from the vehicle, witnesses said. Pope had been free on a $50,000 cash bond on a narcotics charge prior to the murder arrest.
