In Washington a grand jury case looms as Agnew urges a full inquiry from the House. Nixon asks for presumption of innocence. Agnew lawyers plan moves to block the grand jury. The report spans White House testimony, Nixon's stance, and ongoing political friction.
Plano High School begins a testing program to map student aptitudes interests and academic progress for guiding future course work. Sophomores take the new Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery through Thursday with junior testing Oct 23 and ITED exams for sophomores juniors later in fall and seniors in early November.
More than 11 560 students in the Plano Independent School District will be dismissed at 2 30 p m Thursday for a two hour in service program for teachers. Buses run at 2 30 p m to return students home. Four such dismissals are planned this year with Nov 15 Feb 28 and Apr 25 as the other dates.
A Kansas tornado outbreak Tuesday night killed three people in Clay Center and injured 111 statewide. An ammonia tank was ripped free at Greenleaf, causing an explosion that killed at least two and possibly three. Two motorists were washed away north of Ellsworth, and an elderly woman died in Niles as a collapsed home. The Red Cross described heavy damage in Clay Center with 50 buildings heavily damaged and 100 lightly damaged.
Sherri Roland a 21 year old Plano woman was shot to death early today near U S Brass at 10th Street. Roland died at Presbyterian Hospital at 3 a m. Police filed murder with malice charges and issued a warrant for a 21 year old male suspect who is not in custody. Detective Craig Matthews said investigators are seeking him and declined further details.
Don January and Billy Martindale head Jan: Mart Enterprises building a private De Rios course and Plano Municipal Golf Course with January, a North Texas golf standout and 1966 PGA champion, offering ongoing consultation to touring pros.
Don January discusses reduced playing time and announces Jan-Mart Associates plans seven Dallas area courses. Del Rios remains 18 holes, Plano Municipal may expand to 27. He notes open space, trees to protect, and a long lease with the city guiding operations. He and Martindale will run Plano Municipal with a winter build phase ahead of a spring 1974 opening.
