Ten New Plano Schools Planned to Serve 29 000 Students

Plano Independent School District board projects 12 000 new students by 1981 and approves plans for six elementary two middle one high and one senior high schools by then. The group also OKs 19 policy revisions and bids for sound baffles and maintenance trucks. Dedication dates set for Armstrong Middle and Vines High. a new 9 10 grade high school eyed for the Spring Creek site.

Three Burglaries Reported To Plano Police

Three residential burglaries were reported to Plano police Monday. Officers also investigated three thefts an assault and five reports of criminal mischief. A white-faced cow valued at $400 was killed by a 1974 Cadillac driven by Stanley Wade Hopson of Sherman on US 75 near Spring Creek. A 1969 Toyota driven by James Hart Foster Jr. and a 1974 Pontiac driven by Archie Smith collided on the US 75 frontage road at Parker Road. At Vista Manana and Hillridge a 1973 AMC and a 1976 Chevrolet collided.

Progress Catches Leon End of Gulf Oil Partnership

The Leon Lewis Gulf Oil Corp partnership ends as Gulf eliminates service at the station on Sept 30. Lewis must surrender the lease and Gulf plans a self service operation with a booth attendant for payments, altering the Planeites accustomed to chats and repairs.

Longtime Plano Gulf dealer since 1953 Lewis announces a switch to self service and faster fill ups at his location 600 15th St amid memories of six to eight stations on Avenue K and a busy service era. He recalls knowing customers by name and employing youths part time while pumping over 300000 gallons annually. Continuous changes since the 1950s include a move before 1957 Central Expressway opening and the rise of machine driven washing.

Texas mechanic testifies against Hicks in narcotics trial

Coleman Ray Bandy of Argyle testifies that he made about 40 trips abroad to buy heroin and cocaine for Plano dealer Joe D Hicks. He says Hicks funded trips and paid $3500 each to bring drugs back, with shipments tied to Colombia Thailand Vietnam and other locations.
