In Santiago the ruling military junta announced thousands of innocent Chileans have been arrested to suppress supporters of ousted President Salvador Allende. Interior Minister General Oscar Bonilla said those prisoners would be freed after sufficient interrogation as authorities vow not to make mistakes.
Doctors say the four boys and two girls born to the 34 year old wife of an accountant after fertility drugs are in excellent condition and may be the century’s first sextuplets to survive. The father Eugene Stanek expressed relief as the family cheered the newborns.
Saturday morning kickoff marks the Plano Sports Authority third season with about 700 boys in four leagues National American Texas and the Senior for junior high students. Over 200 girls cheer from the sidelines as drill teams and pep squads.
Plano Independent School District held an afternoon workshop for about 50 substitute teachers at the School Administration Building. The session, planned for the third year by Personnel Director Jack Cockrill, covered district programs and substitute roles with talks by Geraldine Haggard Martha Hunt and Ernest Horany. The program ran 1 30 p m to 3 p m with a Q A session and principals’ visits.
Dedicated to the DFW Airport ceremony, the Plano High School Wildcat Band among 28 invited groups will perform in a mass concert with North Texas State University and other high school bands. The 85 players lead the parade into Dedication Plaza. rehearsal at 8:30 a.m., dedication at 10:15 a.m., crowd over 250000 expected.
The Planning and Zoning Commission denied a partial site plan for a P&Z Animal Clinic on Parker Road and Custer Road. The panel, voting 2 to 1, asked for a full plan later and tabled further action on a separate Connell Development Co. rezoning proposal for land east of Parker Road.
A Republican source told the Washington Post he is 9942 percent sure Vice President Spiro Agnew will resign this week after four hours of talks. Agnew and aides dispute the claim, with staffers and supporters skeptical of any resignation. Agnew faces an August 1 inquiry by U.S. Attorney George Beall into contractor kickback allegations.
