The Texas delegation voted 21 to 2 to end sport event blackouts in towns where tickets are sold out 72 hours ahead. Barbara Jordan and Olin Teague opposed. Bob Price did not vote as the measure passed 336 to 37.
Four gunmen stopped two bank clerks on Thursday at Rome police said and stole the bags they were loading onto an armored car. The bags held bad checks and contested promissory notes, police reported.
The State Banking Board refused applications for new state banks in Pasadena and Lakeway citing no demonstrated public need or sufficient business to ensure profitability. Fair tonight through Saturday, with warmer weekend highs forecast and scattered rain across the Gulf and Atlantic states.
The Plano division of the Home & Apartment Builders Association of Metropolitan Dallas will host a noon luncheon on Monday September 17 at the Community House in Plano. Ray Roberts congressman for Texas fourth district will speak and division officers for 1973 74 will be installed.
The settlement progress in Canadian mills and partial wage gains are not enough to meet U S needs. Even when Canadian production resumes fully, output will not satisfy initial U S newspaper demands. Costs are rising as newsprint moves toward about 10 percent higher, with current U S prices around $178 per ton.
Dr Leighton Kirk Farrell senior minister at Highland Park Methodist Church headlines the United Way Plano kickoff on September 18 at Community House. Campaign volunteers led by Jim Stalker aim to exceed a 31122 goal while noting 10000 residents have directly benefited from United Way agencies and services valued at about 248000. Ray Houpt, president of United Way of Plano, notes the merger with United Way of Metropolitan Dallas.
Plano Postmaster Bille Creed announced a new Stamps By Mail service starting Sept 17 allowing customers to buy stamps and stamped envelopes by mail with checks or money orders. The program targets shut ins and working people, with leaflets distributed soon. A 40 cent fee covers two way postage and processing costs.
The Saturday program at 12:30 p.m. will discuss the North Central Texas Council of Governments. Dan Matkin Irving mayor serves on COG Executive Board, with Mel Price named CCGMRC chairman and Norma Stanton Irving moderating. Marty Harding of Tarrant County will host.
