Haley Receives Begin Book Exchange at Hebrew University

American author Alex Haley exchanged books with Israeli Prime Minister Menahem Begin during a ceremony at Hebrew University where Haley was made an honorary fellow. Haley praised direct exposure to a people seeking their roots. The event featured Begin’s The Revolt and Haley’s Roots.

Storms Cause Tornado Damage Across North Texas

Heavy rain and storms hit Plano and Collin County with at least one tornado tearing a boat shed roof at East Fork Harbor on Lake Lavon. A 17 year old football player was killed by lightning nearby and a Terrell power outage followed by a football field fatal strike. Four airplanes were damaged at a small La Grange airport as the system tracked across North Central Texas.

TSTA District X Workshop Set for Plano High School

District X leaders from seven counties plan a Saturday workshop at Plano Senior High School with 37 local associations present. District president Russell Owen Jr. leads the event with Grace Grimes as a featured speaker for 1977-78 program input. Next week English teachers from 15 counties join a Joint Council District X XI workshop chaired by Marsha Foster.

Tornadoes and Severe Storms Cross North Texas and Surrounding Areas

Weather reports from Fayette and Lytle cite a 3 20 p m La Grange tornado that damaged Guenther Airport hangar and nearby homes. A 5 15 p m Lytle tornado struck a lumber yard and car lot, with downed lines and trees. Funnel clouds were observed in Houston suburbs Bellaire and Alief and near Rockwall and Austin briefly. Storms extended to Paris Greenville Mount Enterprise Madisonville and across the lower Gulf Coast and into Arkansas and Louisiana.

Investigator On Hand At Crash

An accident investigator was on the scene Wednesday afternoon and one of the drivers. Police officers Mickey Hand and Lonnie Carter met on Avenue H in front of the station. Hand and the Traffic Division investigate accidents and causes. Hand rated both drivers for improper lookout. No injuries. patrol car and one unmarked vehicle were damaged slightly.
