Dallas Times Herald general assignments reporter Ot Hampton, 47, was stabbed in the face and stomach. His body was found in his duplex by the landlord. Police noted a large felt tip message from shoulder to leg, four to five inches high, details unreleased. No weapon found, apartment littered with newspapers.
Mrs. G L Chambers thanks Plano for support as residents raise funds for three year old Greg Chambers who has malignant cancer. Contributions from KYAL radio listeners, the Plano Jaycees and the Plano Citizens Band Radio Club totalled over $2 200, with American Cancer Society aiding transport to Dallas hospitals. Greg, born prematurely with one kidney, receives ongoing cobalt therapy and weekly hospital visits. funds help cover medical bills and provide support for the Chambers family.
Zacabeth Uland directs childhood education at First Baptist Church guiding programs from infants to grade six. She oversees the Child Development Center and a noon meal Day Care Center while emphasizing Bible teaching in daily life and personal growth.
Plano Independent School District launches Career Orientation at Wilson and Bowman junior highs. Eighth graders wear ID badges punch time clocks and earn grades as wages while learning job skills and workplace rules. Program aims to show work dignity and variety and includes field trips and a TV feature on Work is Child's Play. Governor Briscoe proclaims Career Oriented Education Week to promote statewide awareness.
