In Szczecin a man trapped head first in a building garbage chute was freed after construction workers knocked down part of a wall between the eighth and ninth floors. The incident followed a lovers’ confrontation as a husband and friends returned home.
Mendenhall Elementary in Plano is designated a Texas Right to Read school by TEA. Jennifer Metzger will lead third and fourth graders in a statewide program with training at Texas Woman's University and ongoing TEA Region X coordination.
Washington officials consider a nationwide ban on Sunday gasoline sales as part of energy saving measures amid warnings of an impending minimum operable fuel supply. Michael Altenburg an 18 year old from Tucson was arraigned on 24 murder charges and one arson count after allegedly admitting to setting the Stratford Apartments fire that killed 24 residents including eight children and injured 52 others. He was ordered held without bail. The three story wooden building housed about 140 people and burned rapidly sending some victims from beds to the sidewalk.
Plano city offices close Thursday for Thanksgiving Day and there will be no garbage pickup on this city holiday or Friday due to Richardson's Sanitary landfill being closed. Regular pickups resume Monday.
Skylab 3 crew Carr Gibson and Pogue plan a long spacewalk on Thanksgiving 270 miles above Earth. They will perform camera film replacements and repair Earth sensing instruments while undergoing medical tests to gauge zero gravity adaptation. Flight officials expect potential 62 hour record, with ground control reassessing tasks to finish in one day.
