The Plane intersection gains a new signal light recently placed in operation at Ave G and 15th St. Superintendent Jerry Stewart adjusts the actuated system using a panel. The device lets traffic on 15th St proceed until vehicles on Ave 6 trigger the magnetic loop to change the signal.
TP and L filed an application with the City of Plano for an average 10 percent electric rate increase across its 51 county service area. Manager Jim Taylor said the change would cost the typical Plano residential customer about eight cents more per day and cited rising construction costs and high interest rates as reasons. He noted a fuel mix shift due to shortages of natural gas and fuel oil as lignite plants are developed.
A UPI report says Texas property taxes are the least fair among major levies. The 110 page study by the Texas Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations cites inequities in assessment and administration across 3,336 local jurisdictions and 1,500 tax offices, calling the system legally and logistically flawed.
USDA economists predict grocery prices will stay weak into early next year and then rise moderately by spring. Food consumption in 1973 may fall 1.5 percent from 1972, the sharpest decline in 15 years, with meat down about 6 percent. Meanwhile energy policy moves advance in Congress amid talks of rationing and higher energy costs.
