Plano City Receives National Bicentennial Designation
The Plano Bicentennial Committee and the city were named a National Bicentennial Committee by the ARBA. Letters of congratulations came from Senator John Tower and ARBA Texas director Gene Brownrigg. A flag and certificate will arrive in two months with plans for a ceremony. Plans for a Fourth of July picnic at Harrington Park proceed alongside the Jaycees event.

Severe Thunderstorms Hit Texas With Flood Threats
A line of showers and thunderstorms moved across Texas causing flash flooding in southeastern watersheds and warnings of tornadoes hail and high winds. Dallas Fort Worth area faced severe storms with one death from lightning and multiple tornado sightings.

City council approves Pitman Creek Estates land study
After two hours of debate and 12 motions the Plano city council approved the Pitman Creek Estates land study south of FM 544 between Custer Rd and Westwood Dr. The panel OKd a two acre park for the Ammie Wilson home and a three acre park in the southern portion, with other park sizes reduced to gain support for street alignment. A 37 foot collector street will align with Aldridge Dr and Westwood, cutting through to Custer between Delmar and Glencliff. Through traffic will be barred on Aldridge east of Westwood. The vote reflected persistent controversy over park sites and street layout amid residents pressure and executive-session compromises. The council also postponed action on Plano withdrawing from NCTCOG citing potential loss of influence and benefits.
