Best of Show Award in Plano Art Show Goes to Marie Renfro

Marie Renfro received the Best of Show prize for her oil painting at Sundays Spring Art Show sponsored by the Piano Art Assn. She, a prominent local artist and former association president, displayed more of her work at a booth. The event also featured a Plano Flower Show by four local garden clubs with Gladys Cox earning an Award of Merit for Verbenia. Hundreds of entries across student and adult categories drew a large crowd at Plano Senior High School student center.

Texas House OKs presidential primary bill in first vote

The Texas House easily approved a permanent presidential primary bill on voice vote, aiming to simplify ballot access and allocate delegates to candidates with at least 12 percent support. Rep. John Wilson added an amendment to list all nationally recognized candidates, criticizing the 1976 petition system as unfair and slanted toward Lloyd M. Bentsen Jr.

Plano fire crews answered 12 emergency ambulance calls and provided eight miscellaneous services with no fires reported. A single fire grease incident was extinguished upon arrival.

Burglary at Dairy Queen on 14th Street Reports $12 Stolen

Dairy Queen at 3100 14th St was burglarized early Saturday when a window was entered at 5 33 am. About $12 in change was taken from a cigarette machine. Police also investigated 10 thefts, two residential burglaries, a motor vehicle burglary and five cases of criminal mischief along with 182 calls and nine arrests.

County Approves First Ever Outside Audit in Collin County

County Judge Nathan E White Jr says the Collin County Commissioners Court approved an outside audit by Ray Harris of Harris Havens and Co at an expected cost of 25000 to 30000 dollars. The move accompanies plans for online tax office terminals and a full data processing switch from manual systems. Bailey Dickerson opposed the measure though not against auditing, urging caution about cost and scope. County Auditor Bill Eubanks says the audit will free time for internal reviews.

Young lobbyists press for home backyard swim camp permit

More than 30 youngsters urged Planning and Zoning Commissioners to grant Margaret Thompson a specific use permit for a day camp in her backyard. Neighbors objected to traffic noise and litter, but the panel favored a public hearing and regulated classes to six students each with 15 minutes between sessions.
