Belgium Delhaire Family Friendships Span Decades

William Wells of Plano and the Delhaire family of Brussels began a friendship 32 years ago in Belgium and have since exchanged many visits. Christine Dewandre, Delhaire’s granddaughter, has stayed three weeks at the Wells home on Coit Rd and shared views on American life, shopping, and housing. She described high Belgium taxes, limited TV, and her wartime family history, noting Americans’ friendliness and the beauty of the United States during a ten day California Grand Canyon trip.

Wilson Team Wins First in Arseline Academy Speech Tourney

The Wilson Middle School Speech Arts team took the sweepstakes trophy at the Arseline Academy tournament. Eric Stephenson and Homer Reynolds earned second for debate, Geoffrey Wurzel and Jami Stephens took second in duet acting, and Yvonne Ewing won first in poetry. Other finalists and semi-finalists included Kim Orth, Rob Hargett, and Mary Lynn Brown among several events.

SEC seeks curb on corporate bribes and payoffs

The SEC urged the New York Stock Exchange to require audit committees of outside directors at listed firms and asked accounting firms to watch for payoffs during audits. Dallas May Be On Hit List of Organized Crime

UPI reports Texas Organized Crime Prevention Council says Dallas may be targeted by multiple crime families. The council cites sightings of representatives from at least five families, plus concerns over syndicate money laundering in the Lower Rio Grande Valley and a Houston physician murder plot foil.

Plano Police Handle Busy Tuesday With 66 Calls And Thefts

Plano officers answered 66 calls for assistance across four shifts and investigated several thefts and burglaries. Victims reported autos, a horse, a bicycle stolen, and a 23 channel Citizen Band radio shoplifted from Brick's TV. Two residences were burglarized and a weekend burglary was under investigation. About $50 in soft drinks were taken from a storage building at Information Dynamics on Dallas North Parkway. Two arrests were made, one for public intoxication and one on traffic. Police logged a criminal mischief report and investigated three accidents including three separate vehicle collisions on Custer Road and Park Boulevard, Parker Road and P Avenue, and Independence Parkway near Hunters Creek.

Firefighters handle routine day with multiple incidents

Firefighters had a routine day with a major residence blaze at 3416 Club Ridge Circle cleared at 1:04 a.m. They returned for a second call at 9:51 a.m. and handled three ambulance requests, two vehicle fires, and a gas leak check before resting.

Ellsberg says Watergate target planned killing in 1972

Daniel Ellsberg told UPI that operatives tied to the White House were ordered to incapacitate him during an antiwar protest in Washington on May 3, 1972. He said the assault never occurred and that investigators later told him of the plot.
