Plano Construction Boom Keeps Growing In 1976

The city reports a surge in new home starts with April and the first four months of the year showing about 94 percent increases over 1975. Ralph Shick notes 223 single family residences began in April, up from 115 in April 1975, with 819 homes built so far this year versus 422 last year. April activity rose about eight percent from March.

General's NoRAX Electronic Exchange Groundbreaking in Plano

GT and General Telephone officials break ground for the NoRAX Electronic Automatic Exchange at Coit Road near Parker Road in Plano with dignitaries present. The 20,000 square foot one story center will expand to three floors, house an 8 000 customer initial EAX service with 10 000 lines, and reach 30 000 lines eventually, targeting mid 1978 operation. The project cost nearly 4.96 million dollars and aims to speed Dallas area phone service.

Food Preservation Clinic in Collin County May 27

A Food Preservation Clinic will be held Thursday May 27 to teach preserving garden vegetables for year round use. Sponsored by the Collin County Family Living Committee and Texas Agricultural Extension Service with support from First National Bank and Texas Power and Light Co.

Huff Won't Quit AUSTIN UPI Report

Comptroller Bob Bullock to keep J Kenneth Huff as director of revenue estimates after Huff agrees to stay for duration plus six months. Huff delayed resignation from June 15 due to health, persuaded to remain by Vernon A. McGee. Utility system reconnected. Texas Utilities Co and Houston Lighting & Power report 70 to 80 percent restored under PUC order. Decrease Seen For Fire Calls

Fire Department responded to 79 city county and mutual aid calls in April, down from 109 city county and mutual aid in March. Fires included three residences and one other structure, plus two grass, five trash, and eight auto fires. Causes cited include electrical appliances and wiring, careless smoking, heaters, grease, and spontaneous combustion. Fire marshal Threet reported 66 inspections, 20 blaze investigations, $84,000 property involved, and $3,225.72 in insured losses paid.

Fire Damages Plano House in Early Morning Blaze

Fire at 3416 Club Ridge Circle caused heavy heat and smoke damage to a Plano home. Fire Marshal Bill Threet said a small clock radio may have shorted, starting the blaze in the master bedroom dressing area while Steve Patton was away. Eleven firefighters and four units responded, extinguishing the fire by 2:42 a.m. with no dollar loss yet estimated.

Plans Underway For Headstart In Plano ISD

The Plano Independent School District will run its Headstart program for four year olds and five year olds entering kindergarten from May 31 to July 23 at Sigler Elementary. Geraldine Haggard will direct with two teachers two aides and a school nurse. Hours are 8 30 a m to 11 30 a m Monday through Friday with breakfast and lunch provided. Registration is through Mrs Haggard at the School Administration Building 1517 Avenue H. For more information call 424 5602 days or 424 7091 evenings.

Burglary and theft wave hits Plano area

Plano police report six days of crime with 25 thefts including bicycles tires construction materials autos and bee hives among items taken. Fourteen burglaries occurred eight residences six motor vehicles with two bicycles recovered. Eighteen people arrested for offenses including DWI shoplifting and warrants. Two minor injuries in separate crashes near Parkhaven and its alley.
