City Council debates capital improvement plan bond sale for street work and sewer upgrades. They will consider six sewer contracts, a waste plant site talk with North Texas district, boundary lines with Renner, and signatures for new officers and consultancies. Executive session precedes the 7:30 p.m. open meeting.
Baylor University will award Rev Travis Berry of Plano an honorary doctor of laws at the 131st commencement in Waco on May 14 about 1 000 degrees to be conferred at 10 a m Berry pastor of the First Baptist Church of Plano will also deliver the Baccalaureate on May 13 and has degrees from Auburn and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary The nomination was approved by the Baylor board of trustees University Senate and the Committee on Honorary Degrees.
The Plano Chamber of Commerce launches a spring membership drive from Tuesday to Thursday with a continental breakfast kickoff at 9 a.m. and a Thursday awards reception at Los Rios Country Club. First prize is a TI digital watch, second a Smoke N Pit barbecue pit, third a Cross pen set. Commemorative $2 bills will be given for each new member signed up. Berry, a church and community leader, serves in Plano and Brazil related evangelism work and holds roles with BGCT committees and local organizations.
Collin County Commissioners Court will consider selecting a general contractor for the proposed city county government complex and jail after bids were reviewed by the Jarvis Putty Jarvis firm. Also on the agenda are a bond fund depository, a salary raise for Assistant DA Barry Elliott, hospital finances, and a sheriff's department bid for a patrol vehicle.
Plano Independent School District hosts the All-City Elementary School Bicentennial Festival at Williams High School at 7 30 p m Tuesday. Fourth to sixth graders from Forman Meadows Sigler Barron Mendenhall Jackson Weatherford perform with guidance from Mary Ozanne Pam Osborne Kathy Brodhead Ann Marshall and others. An orchestra of secondary students directed by Marilyn Evans backs the presentation tracing 200 years of American history with songs and dance.
The University of Plano will hold its eighth annual commencement at 4 30 p m on the Plano campus. Thirty three undergraduate degrees and one honorary degree will be conferred including an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters on Beverley V Thompson Jr of Fort Worth president of the Texas Educational Assn The public is invited to attend.
Former Plano resident Susan Bright endures a life shaped by lupus erythematosus diagnosed at 13. The illness damaged her kidneys to 50 percent function, affected her thyroid and heart, caused rheumatoid arthritis, and forbade sun exposure. At 21 she rarely attended high school, yet she remains stubborn and resilient despite near-death episodes and ongoing health battles.
Susan survived a coma following brain edema from lupus related illness. She endured seizures, edema, and a near death prognosis but recovered and now studies nursing. She aims to form a Lupus Club to support others, inspired by Texas Lupus Erythematosus Society contacts. She urges interested callers to reach her at the listed number.
