Jaycee Circus Cancels Plano Appearance

Showtime USA canceled its Plano show forcing the Jaycee group to offer refunds. Plano Jaycees will reimburse all ticket purchases by mail with name, address, and phone number. Inquiries directed to the Jaycee office at 1029 B 15th St. between 6 and 10 pm, or to 423-5000. Funds come from the Jaycee treasury.

Collins Keynotes GOP Convention in Collin County

Congressman Jim Collins will headline the Collin County Republican Convention to be held May 8 at 30 p.m. in the Collin County District Courtroom in McKinney. County Chairman Bill Manchee will chair the event as the party marks its first convention in the county courthouse with John Byers also noted.

Ramps Project On Central Expressway Awarded To Dallas Firm

Uvalde Construction Co of Dallas wins the contract to build additional entrance and exit ramps on Central Expressway between 15th Street and Parker Road. Low bid totals 148 906 dollars 36 cents and work is expected to take about 75 days under the supervision of District Engineer John G Keller.

Planos school tax office shakeup eyed by trustees

Planos school trustees in emergency session agreed to seek City Council involvement in a continued joint operation or have the district run its own tax office for about 19 571 accounts and 15 481 city taxed accounts. Trustees stressed representing residents outside city limits and noted state law on fair market value assessments and equalization.

Crime Increase Reported by Pam Troboy

FBI reports April crime up 10 percent amid mixed figures

FBI data show an overall 10 percent rise from April 1975 to April this year, aided by eight motor vehicle thefts and 23 percent theft increases. The report notes misleads due to late January manslaughter and a forced theft involving youths. Burglary and assault rates rose. only 12 percent of thefts were cleared.

Morning House Fire on Brooks Road Damages Home

A fire woke a mother and her five year old child at 7 54 am destroying a residence on Brooks Road three quarters of a mile north of Villa Casita. Fire Marshal Bill Threet said the attic and a bedroom bath suffered most of the loss. Owner Billy Joe Hicks valued the structure at about 5000 with furnishings over 5000. Eleven firefighters, including off duty men, fought the blaze. A second fire at 2409 Teakwood a grease fire was extinguished at 8 16 am.

Plano Senior Student Appointed to Annapolis ROTC Leader

Karri Kline of Richardson Plano Senior High School has been named one of the first Texas women chosen for a service academy. Daughter of Dozier and (Mrs. Kline) Kline, she will attend Annapolis after earning a captaincy of the rifle team and leading the Junior ROTC unit in its second year of operation. No further details on nomination date or class year are provided.

Plano Senior High Senior Heads to 30th National DECA Conference

Tammy McKelvy of Plano plans to attend the 30th Annual National DECA Career Development Conference in Chicago, among 300 Texas participants and about 4,500 members. She will compete in Sales Demonstration, serve as a Texas voting delegate, and attend workshops with leaders from marketing, education, and government.
