Mrs Gladys Harrington Merrill E Alloway of Plano are two of three recipients of the 1977 Distinguished Service Awards for Collin County The third honoree is E A Randles of McKinney The announcement came from Congressman Jim Collins in Washington and awards are to be presented at a 3 p m Saturday reception at the Plano Community House 1318 Avenue J Harrington helped establish a Plano public library and is active in Christian work and fundraising for March of Dimes Muscular Dystrophy Multiple Sclerosis and health groups

Doors Open In June At Plano I R Center
Plano Information and Referral Center will open in early June under director Kathi Muse. The center links people to agencies, connects agencies with volunteers, and aids long term community planning, while not offering counseling. Volunteer orientation is May 11 at Gladys Harrington Library with two May sessions May 19 and 26.

Six Persons Arrested by Plano Police
Six persons were arrested by Plano police on Wednesday. The group includes an 18 year old for violation of the State Controlled Substances Act, a 24 year old on a Collin County burglary warrant and marijuana possession, a 22 year old with license suspended, a 24 year old for expired vehicle inspection, an 18 year old for discharging a firearm within city limits, and a 44 year old on a Dallas Police Department aggravated robbery warrant. Investigations continue into a residential burglary and related thefts and mischief, with 61 calls for service and three minor accidents logged.

House trims school finance budget by 362 million
UPI reports Texas House approved a 15.3 billion state spending bill trimmed by 362.1 million, leaving 1.12 billion for other needs. The measure funds school finance, teacher pay and retirement while cutting top budgets by 2 percent and narrowing new state employee growth, with pay rises reduced to 3.5 percent and a 10 percent cap on new hires. Nursing home funding for veterans boosted to increase monthly allotments.

Parker Road Opens to Four Lanes This Summer
Traffic engineer Tom Walton announced Parker Road from Independence Parkway to the US 75 overpass is now four lanes with a temporary surface to the overpass. Work will soon start on a new Parker overpass while developers convert Parker to four lanes to Colt later this summer and extend a two lane section to Preston Road. Alma Street from Park Boulevard to Greenhollow should finish in about ten days.
