McAllen man charged after motel narcotics raid linked to Oswald case

Charles Allen Tippet 25 son of a policeman once linked to Lee Harvey Oswald faces narcotics and weapons charges after McAllen police found one kilo marijuana one kilo hashish and illegal firearms in a motel room along with $14 500 cash. Donald Ray Moore and John R. Thomas also charged in the case.

Walnut Grove Estates residents press for road fixes

Collin County officials hear Walnut Grove Estates residents protest road conditions. The subdivision developed in 1971 never met county standards, developers abandoned the project, and the county cannot take over the roads. Estimated cost to repair runs around $18,000 per mile, roughly $27,000 total per approach.

City Plans Spring Pick Up and County Road Dispute

Plano will close its annual Spring Pick Up on Wednesday collecting large items such as appliances mattresses and brush. Call 423 6500 to schedule special pickups and place items at regular garbage points. The county debates road responsibility while officials discuss road upgrades and county ownership.

P Z Approves Industry Land Rezoning for Jet Jupiter Shiloh Area

The Planning and Zoning Commission rezoned 191 acres bounded by Shiloh Rd North Star Rd across from the Plano Richardson boundary to Light Industrial 1 at Southwestern Town Lot Corp a railroad subsidiary. Ted Searcy says Southwestern plans 1 million dollars in the next year to develop the Jupiter Shiloh area into a first class railroad served industrial park. A separate hearing rezoned 62 acres in Hunters Glen from MF1 to MF2 increasing density to 16 units per acre. The McCollum Addition 0.2 acre lot near Ave K and 19th St will host a four bay car wash. All actions go to City Council as recommendations.

School Financing Questioned By Dan Kubiak in Texas Debate

Rep Dan Kubiak argues the school finance bill costing 1.8 billion will not raise local taxes though critics warn of higher costs. He notes teacher salaries are at issue with the proposal raising starting pay from 6600 to 10000 a year while Gov Briscoe backs 7430.

Police Log Reports Theft Burglary and Drunkenness

Police activity remained quiet over the weekend with four bicycle thefts three miscellaneous thefts and two residential burglaries reported. Officers investigated six accidents and answered 127 calls recovering three bicycles and three license plates. Fourteen people were arrested including four for public drunkenness three for curfew violations two for shoplifting two on warrants one for minor in possession of alcohol and one for driving while intoxicated.

Tower says U.S. must accept Vietnamese refugees

Senator John Tower of Texas says the United States has no choice but to accept Vietnamese refugees. He notes those who escaped worked with Americans and faced execution if returned, and he opposes forcing anyone to go back if they fear for their life.

Plano High Students Win Five State Places

Plano High School earned five places at the state UIL events in Austin over the weekend. Senior Jim Renard was runner up in Informative Speaking, Ron DeGroat took third in Science, and Diane Gajdica finished fourth in Typing. The debate team of Debbie Nowling and Beth Lauren beat King High School before losing to Amarillo High, and in golf Sue Yount and Missy McGeorge tied for runner up in the 36 hole state meet as Plano’s district regional champion squad placed third overall.
