Eight Plano Schools to Honor Local Pioneers and Notables

The School Board approved eight proposed new schools named after long time Plano residents and local leaders. Dooley, a former school board member, will have an elementary in east Plano named for him. Other honorees include James Lawrence Thomas William Beverly Henry Carlisle Fred Schimelphenig Dr. O T Mitchell Richard Calhoun Clark and Joseph Hampton Gulledge.

Candidate Misses Report Deadline

An unsuccessful City Council candidate is in apparent violation of the Campaign Reporting and Disclosure Act with the April 2 general election deadline for filing expenditures and contributions. Runoff candidates have two weeks to file final statements.

Bergman Censured Over Bergman Tax Evasion Indictment Attempt

The disciplinary board censured local Prosecutor Curt Dreifaldt for attempting to indict Ingmar Bergman on tax evasion charges. Dreifaldt ordered Bergman’s arrest Jan 29 1976, an action the board said lacked adequate investigation and Bergman, 58, suffered a nervous breakdown and exile.

Totie Fields to Undergo Eye Surgery After Amputation

Comedienne Totie Fields, who had her left leg amputated last year, will have eye surgery next week to diagnose cloudiness in the eye fluid. The procedure required cancellations of appearances in New York Chicago and Cleveland after her quick return to performing following the leg amputation.

Burglars Take Cash From Shell Station on West 15th

Police report an undetermined amount stolen from the Shell Station at 2404 W 15th after a break in between 11 30 p m Sunday and 6 30 a m Monday. Investigations also include four residential burglaries two motor vehicle burglaries the attempted vehicle burglary two thefts and one criminal mischief case. 78 calls answered Tuesday and six arrests listed including a 23 year old for no license and a 43 year old woman for criminal trespass eviction.

Exchange Students Seek Plano Homes

Through Japan American Cultural Exchange Inc. six foreign students may live with Plano families next year and attend local schools. Dallas area director Tom Abbott says host families are needed and that the program, nonprofit, is funded by participating students with food and lodging provided by hosts.

Plano choir trips to Atlanta for Six Flags contest

Members of the Plano Senior High Mixed and Girls Choirs charter buses for an overnight trip to Atlanta Ga for a special choir contest at Six Flags Over Georgia. The Girls Choir competes this afternoon while host family interviews for the Plano Japan American Cultural Exchange Inc. will arrange student placements with Abbott.

CIA blamed in break in by Sturgis in Dallas report

Frank Sturgis tells WFAA-TV that the CIA planned and executed the 1972 break in at the Democratic National Committee to frame Richard Nixon. He claims Nixon sought Kennedy assassination files, was endangered, and that Deep Throat was Robert Bennett.
