Pedestrian Killed Here Wednesday in Plano

Plano reports its second traffic death of the year as 76 year old Willie Lee Brawley died after a 3:30 p.m. car pedestrian crash on FM 544 near Des Sol Drive. Police say he stepped into the path of a westbound 1963 Chevrolet pickup driven by Arthur R. Spencer. Brawley died at Parkland Hospital after being airlifted by ambulance. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Civic candidates questioned by crowd at community event

An enthusiastic audience of nearly 100 gathered Wednesday night for a candidate forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters, the American Association of University Women, and the Jaycees. The event featured a screening panel while attendees partly left unsatisfied by unanswered questions.

McKinney native to be sworn in as first 219th District Court judge

John L. McCraw Jr. will take the oath at 2 p.m. in the Collin County Courthouse with Judge William Ralph Elliott administering. The ceremony includes T.C. Chaddick and other officials. McCraw has practiced in McKinney since 1966 and held multiple local posts.

Three ex officials sworn into new posts at White House

Robert Strauss becomes special trade negotiator, John Gilligan heads the Agency for International Development, and Gale McGee is named ambassador to the Organization of American States after losing reelection. All were sworn in Wednesday in the Rose Garden.

Bowie named deputy for national intelligence at CIA

Harvard University professor Dr. Robert R. Bowie is named by CIA director Stansfield Turner as the new deputy for national intelligence. Bowie, 67, will oversee production of national intelligence estimates used in U.S. policy. He hails from Baltimore and is a Princeton and Harvard graduate.

Burglars Hit Fina Station Wednesday

An undetermined amount of cash was stolen from the Fina service Station at 1100 14th St in an early Wednesday burglary. Entry was gained through a window. Six persons were arrested including a 13 year old girl for runaway and several teens on warrants. Police answered 83 calls for assistance and 23 motor vehicles were inspected.
