Waters Submerge Los Rios After Weekend Storm

Heavy rains isolated residents of Los Rios for hours with Los Rios Blvd flooded beyond a 50 year level. Water cut residents off from 14th St and Plano. A nearby resident used a small boat to pull two boys from the current averting a potential tragedy. Other areas saw closed intersections and overflowing sewers.

George Home Tour Would Save 19th Century Residence

Jim Edwards of the Plano Preservation Assn outlines a plan to use the George Home for an April 24 tour to spark preservation. The effort faces relocation or renovation options as land nearby becomes a city parking lot, with a public facility or private residence among goals. The council also set an April 11 public hearing for annexation, pursued park grants, and approved $6.425 million in general obligation bonds plus $3.265 million in revenue bonds.

Group Forms To Save Old House In Plano

New group forms to save an old house at the northwest corner of FM 544 and Coit Rd. The city also approved a zoning amendment, annexation and development plans including 21 414 acres central Plano and 87 acres of planned development housing. Day care parking rules were revised. Holiday Lawn Sprinkler won a 1597 irrigation bid. TP&L easement sale 1377 acres to V and Folsom Investments with landscaping donation. Citizens Traffic Safety Support Commission members named and Tom Hull sworn in.

Residents Seek City Aid For Pittman Creek Flood Risk

Eight residents from the Pittman Creek Davis Elementary area pressed the Plano City Council for help after rising water this weekend. Officials warned of the limits of storm sewers and cited 7.15 inches of rain in 24 hours. The council will seek reports from the fire department planning and engineering on water-related calls and potential solutions.

Police Keep City Busy During Flood Weekend

High waters forced police overtime as they warned residents door to door of the flood threat. Flooding affected multiple creeks with Pittman Creek seeing actual flood damage to homes and roads along Los Rios and nearby streets closed for hours. Police recorded 20 arrests ranging from runaways to warrants and multiple disorderly conduct cases along with investigations of four thefts three motor vehicle burglaries and several burglaries and assaults.

Candidates Meet Voters in City Council School Board Quiz

Voters may meet candidates for City Council and School Board Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The event at Sigler Elementary 1400 Janwood is sponsored by the League of Women Voters the American Association of University Women and the Jaycees. Each candidate will present views and answer audience questions.

County seeks applicants for regional mental health board

Collin County Judge Nathan E White Jr and the County Commissioners Court seek residents to serve on a three county regional Mental Health and Mental Retardation Services board joining Collin Hunt and Denton Counties. The board will pursue planning funds hire a director and assess needed facilities. A resolution endorsing HR 624 was approved to extend county services in Plano. A Lake Lavon water zoning plan and minor courthouse jail contract changes were also approved. A settlement of 750 was reached in a suit involving Dixon Contracting Co.

Fire crews respond to weekend water and fire incidents

Firefighters answered 28 water related calls from residents with flooded homes this weekend. One resident reported losses of 10 000 dollars after moving in yesterday. Four fires were tackled with three minor. lightning struck the Jimmy R Evans home at 2528 Magnolia at 8 20 a m Sunday, but the owner stopped the blaze. Dumpster fires were extinguished at 1825 Rigsbee and 2600 Avenue R. See page three for more details and photos.

Appreciation Banquet Set For Tonight

The ICT VICA Chapter 902 annual Employee-Employer Appreciation banquet takes place tonight at 7 30 p m with the topic The Importance of Vocational Education in Today's Society. Employers receive certificates, students may win awards, and the catered event is funded by dues and fund raising.

Light Vote Noted For City and School Elections

Absentee voting ends today at 5 pm. Ballots cast in Municipal Building and School Administration Building. At 9 am city had 39 votes and school 35. Eligible voters must hold a valid Texas registration certificate by April 2, 1977. Elections run Saturday from 7 am to 7 pm at Bowman and Wilson Middle Schools.
