Plano Police report 17 thefts and 13 burglaries in the past week with about a third involving citizen band radios. Thirty accidents were investigated, six bicycles recovered, four bicycles reported missing, and 67 people arrested for offenses ranging from driving while intoxicated to narcotics and burglary warrants.
Horace Neilson of Lone Star Gas told the Plano Division of the Home and Apartment Builders Assn that the company is actively seeking new home and industrial markets. He said the company will not run out of energy and expects to find another energy source if needed. Neilson noted last reserves cost $1.90 per thousand cubic feet and that bid for a recent supply was $2.25, with Lone Star the low bidder.
Plano chamber directors announced groundbreaking for the Commerce Building in Plano. A 10 a.m. coffee at First National Bank Community Room precedes a walk to the site for the ceremony. The chamber also sponsors Plano Hot Check Control Inc. and auto tag license plates sales.
In Austin Sen Walter Mengden proposes a bill to ban total nudity toplessness bottomlessness and simulated sex acts in venues serving alcohol replacing an earlier lewd behavior law deemed unconstitutional. Rep Ray Hutchison schedules April 14 hearings to consider repealing Texas ratification of the federal Equal Rights Amendment. In Bonham Lyndon B Johnson and John W McCormack will keynote the Sam Rayburn House Museum dedication next Tuesday with Wright Patman and Ray Roberts also speaking.
In Tampa two gunmen robbed four district attorneys including David W. Pace of Austin Texas of 160 dollars in the conference parking lot. As they fled a shot was fired in their direction but no injuries were reported.
Plano hosts two events by the Provisional League of Women Voters and the Plano Jaycees. A Meet the Candidates Night at Plano High School invites all city council and school board contenders to answer questions in an open forum. A second forum on April 8 features Pearl Wincorn on foreign policy at St. Mark's Church Room 101.
Negotiators from the House and Senate reached a tentative compromise on a $19.9 to $34.3 billion tax cut while delaying rebates of $100 to $200 of 1974 income taxes. The sticking point was the oil depletion allowance for independents and its duration. Al Ullman voiced optimism the bill could be completed soon.
Linda Houston, president of Plano General Hospital Auxiliary, stays busy with hospital duties including nursery work, planning arts classes, and managing gift shop proceeds aimed at scholarships. She and husband Wayne collect antiques, own a 1864 square piano, a wood stove, and a barber chair from Parsons Kansas, while their children Shannon Kai Kai and Blake model in Dallas. Linda plans a skiing trip with a niece and contemplates nursing or another medical field.
