The city council ruled the historic D C George residence will not be torn down for scrap lumber but its future remains unresolved. More than 20 residents urged preservation after news of possible demolition for Fort Worth project materials. Annie Golightly proposed tearing the house.
Plano City Council considers preserving the 1899 Golightly home amid plans for a park site in Prairie Creek Estates. Residents propose moving or relocating the house while officials seek funds and a feasible site. The council also tackles annexation, zoning, and utility rate issues as part of broader city growth.
The Texas Library Association cites Mrs. Dorothy Stell of Plano as a 1975 Library Benefactor for five years of dedicated service at Sigler Elementary School Library. She volunteers half days weekly, assists during inventory, and participates in leadership training for the Great Books Program. She serves as city wide co chairperson and co leader for fifth grade groups. Stell is among 13 statewide honorees to be celebrated April 4 at the TLA Conference in Dallas.
Collin County commissioners on Monday voted to send a resolution to the State Legislature supporting creation of a county court of law only if its start is delayed to late 1977 or early 1978. They cited insufficient financing with an estimated first-year cost of about $50,000. Commissioner Ray Sellers opposed the measure.
In Texas, Duke of Duval figure George B. Parr, 74, saw his tax evasion conviction upheld by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals while Duval County Judge Archer Parr was removed by District Judge O P Carrillo. The moves unfold amid a Carrillo family effort to seize control of Parr’s political network.
Collin County Commissioners awarded a contract for employee insurance to Republic National Life of Dallas pending budget checks on premium increases. The plan rises to about $52.19 per month per enrolling employee, adding disability coverage, with debate over who pays for family coverage. Auditor to report next week. They also discussed JP precinct consolidation and approved a county holiday schedule and equipment purchases. Salaries for assistant district attorneys were set: first $14,088, second $12,000, and Howard Shapiro at $10,800.
The Texas Legislature can again push a new state constitution. After a 1974 constitutional convention rejected a drafted charter, the House Constitutional Revision Committee voted 11 to 4 to resurrect the charter and forward it to the full House as a joint resolution requiring a two thirds vote.
