Arrests Surge In Plano Police District February Crime Report

Plano Police Dept reports February 1977 arrests at 185 persons, including 154 adults and 31 juveniles, a 122 percent rise from February 1976 and 73 percent over January. Major offenses total 166, down six percent from 1976, with no murders, rapes or robberies but 99 thefts and 51 burglaries.

Plano School Board OKs 6 Million Bond Issue and zoning fight

The Plano Independent School District board unanimously authorized six million dollars in school building bonds after bidding. First National Bank of Dallas submitted the low bid at 5.2323 percent. The board also opposed a Richardson zoning change near Aldridge Elementary and hired architects to design three new elementary schools. A summer session at Sigler Elementary was approved with an instructional television plan for five schools. The board set a March 29 meeting and discussed parent advisory councils travel permissions.

Woman Dies In One Car Smashup In Plano Area

Plano records its first fatality of the year as Mary Smith Rose 35 of Dallas dies from injuries after a one car crash. Police say she lost control on Park Blvd near Marlborough, the Datsun rolled over several times and she was found beneath the vehicle at 2:55 a.m. Saturday. She died at Presbyterian Hospital at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday after transfer from Plano General Hospital.

Inspections Highlight Police Activities

Motor vehicle inspections continued to occupy police time as 17 inspections were conducted and the department answered 59 calls for assistance. Officers investigated two residential burglaries a motor vehicle burglary two thefts and a forgery. Five persons were arrested including three for illegal entry one on an out of town warrant and one for theft.

Collin County Sees Higher Life Expectancy Now

Collin County residents enjoy a record life expectancy of 72.4 years for a newborn, about four years longer than in the past. By 65, men may live 13 more years and women 17, with 9.9 percent of the population aged 65 or more.

Arthur Fiedler conductor of the Boston Pops will be honored at the 21st annual music awards dinner for making the orchestra an international institution and shaping popular musical tastes. Separately Cher Bono Allman and Greg Allman have filed for legal separation amid custody and support questions for their 7 month old son Elijah Blue.
