Collin County commissioners heard about three hours of testimony Friday on a proposed county court at law, but Rep. Bob Hendricks warned that endorsement would have no effect. Attorneys supported the plan citing crowded courts and a sewage problem in delivering justice.
The Collin County Bar Assn president Truett says the group urged Rep. Hendricks to push a county court at law and a district court. He claims the move would advance progress and prestige, with other attorneys and Justice of the Peace Bobby King also voicing support as Hendricks campaigns for the bill. He notes Judge Tom Ryan’s heavy docket but says the Bar is not alone in backing the plan.
Four candidates filed with the City Secretary for Parker’s April 5 municipal election. Three city council seats are open at Corinth Church, with candidates Bill Wade Leon Mellon incumbent Dick Lantrip and incumbent Gary Harrison. The City Marshal race has W C Bill Frizzell uncontested. Absentee voting opens March 17 9 to 5 weekdays. April 1 is the last day to vote absentee for the county court of law.
The annual Plano Blood Bank drive will be held Monday and Tuesday at First United Methodist Church from 3 to 8 p.m. Each day the Wadley Blood Bank of Dallas will assist donors. If unavailable, donate at Wadley in Dallas and credit to Plano.
Plano school board plans a 7 pm joint meeting with the city council and the citizens advisory committee sub committee to discuss the March agenda items and review five books for adoption in high school and middle grades. The session includes an executive meeting on personnel and site matters and a report from Schrickel Rollins on local construction projects plus bids for school equipment.
Planning and Zoning Commission will review a redesigned and replatted Los Rios Addition in Plano at 7:30 p.m. in the municipal building. The 235 acre subdivision shifts density from 5.2 to 4.8 units per acre, cutting retail and multifamily in favor of SF-3 and SF-2 residential, with hearings on related plats and rezone requests.
Absentee voting begins tomorrow and runs through April 1 for city and school elections. Voters may cast ballots at the City Secretary’s Office 1117 15th St or the School Administration Building 1517 Ave. H, 8 am to 5 pm, with Good Friday closure noted. April 5 polls are at Bowman and Wilson Junior High from 7 am to 7 pm. several candidates for council and school board are listed with terms stated.
Justice of the Peace C J Prashaw turns 80 and outlines a four year term in Plans. His career spans acting in a stock company, wartime service in the 139th Infantry Band, and a long utility career with Missouri Power & Light Co where he rose to general sales manager.
The obituary notes Prashaw aged years at retirement in 1963 after a long GM career in Dayton. He moved to Plano to be near his daughter in Dallas and became a dedicated civic figure. He led the Plano Chamber of Commerce twice, chaired United Fund campaigns, founded the Plano Blood Bank and served as Ruling Elder Emeritus at First Presbyterian Church. He was elected Justice of the Peace of Collin County 5th Precinct in November 1974 after an earlier appointment.
The City Council schedules a 5:45 p.m. work session Tuesday to discuss a capital improvements budget and a plan for selling $27 million in general obligation bonds approved in the March 1 election. An executive session on personnel precedes a 7 p.m. joint meeting with the school board and citizens committee on mutual facilities at the administration building.
