Camp Fire Ka-Ki-Wa Wreaths 65th Birthday with Local Party

Camp Fire Girls nationwide mark their 65th year with a Plano area party to recruit new groups. Texas lawmakers push five-state plan to boost influence

Rep. Fred Agnich and Sen. Bob Gammage propose reviving the 1845 clause to divide Texas into North Texas South Texas West Texas East Texas and Central Texas. A 1976 nonbinding referendum would let voters decide this partition to gain 10 U S senators and more localized governance. Texas argues it is a major energy producer underrepresented in Washington compared to New England. The speakers cite population, resources, and the electoral college imbalance as justification.

Sign Destroyed Crash Injures Six

Six people were injured in a two car crash at the SH 121 SH 289 intersection in far northwest Plano after a 1969 Ford failed to stop at a stop sign. The collision with a 1970 Oldsmobile pushed the Olds 28 feet into the intersection and 20 more feet on impact. Five victims were taken to Dallas and McKinney hospitals with serious injuries.

TEA's Fiscal Policies Eyed

Board of Education member Woodrow Bean of El Paso pursues immediate access to an internal audit of the Texas Education Agency. He expects findings of deficiencies in the Proprietary School and Veterans Education Divisions. A five member committee will meet next Wednesday to release the audit to the committee, the commission, and the press.

African Bandits Organize Civic Work in Plano Area

A Dallas motorcycle club named the African Bandits expands to Tyler and Piano. Led by Charles Henry Brooks, the 16 members hold weekly meetings to support Big Brothers projects, blood drives, and Easter events. They plan toy repairs, yard mowing for seniors, and bicycle safety seminars. They invite help via 423-7807.
