Plano Receives Largest County Tax Rebate This Month

A City of Plano rebate check for 18 919 53 was deposited from the State Comptroller Office reflecting January sales. Plano’s return amounts to more than half of county town rebates and signals nearly 1.9 million in taxable retail sales in the city. Other rebates listed include Allen 1 725 64 Princeton 1 471 32 Renner 1 861 17 Wylie 552 88 Frisco 1 253 77 McKinney 9 680 91 Farmersville 1 446 16.

Deadline Nears For Plano Blood Credit Drive

The Wadley Institute reports about 100 units remain for Plano Independent School District residents. Credits from last year must be used by March 23. Evelyne Davenport handles requests and donor directions. Wadley mobile unit will be at First United Methodist Church on 18th St Tuesday and Wednesday from 3 to 8 pm. Donors should eat a normal meal no earlier than six hours prior. The region supplies about 200 pints daily and demand grows with new surgical techniques.

Planoite Qualifies For National Meet

Jennifer Weston, a junior at Plano Senior High, became Plano’s first student to reach a national speech tournament. She ranked first among North Texas speakers and will compete in Seattle this summer in the National Forensic League tour. Weston, president of the local forensic club, has pursued state meets since eighth grade and will now attend the state tournament in two weeks in Waco.

Police Arrests and Incident Report Across City

Eight people were arrested on Wednesday for offenses including no drivers license and public intoxication. Inquiries covered nine thefts three criminal mischiefs one runaway and a harassing call while 67 calls for help and 13 motor vehicle inspections were conducted. A 1976 Pontiac and a 1967 Buick collision near Parker left Consuelo Belmonte with minor injuries.

Plano Judges Selected For Spelling Bee

Mrs Nelle Fineout of Wilson Middle School and Mrs Billie Phillips of Williams High School will judge the Collin County Spelling Bee in McKinney at Caldwell Middle School auditorium. Twenty six Plano elementary and eight middle school students compete starting at 9am with winners advancing to the regional meet May 7 at WFAA TV Channel 8 studios under County Superintendent Leroy G Richardson.

Banks in Trouble Rise to 384, FDIC Says

FDIC Chair Robert Barnett testified to the Senate Banking Committee that 384 banks showed problems this week, with 115 in the two most serious categories. The FDIC annual report lists 24 banks in extremely dangerous condition and 91 in the next worst, with eight expected to fail and three merge.
